The System of InSoFast Insulation Panels Explained
The base panel of InSoFast insulation meets and exceeds all existing and future energy regulations. The panel itself is 2’x4’ in width and length and 2” deep. This panel creates an R-value of 8.5 and outperforms traditional batt insulation with an R-value of 13 on its label.
The panels include several features:
- Built-in, rot-resistant framing
- Moisture control channels
- Service channels
- Lightweight, stackable design
- Cost-effective for all base-level energy codes
The next level of insulation panel is the InSoFast EXi 2.5 insulation panel. This panel produces an R-10 degree of resistance to thermal energy loss and outperforms traditional batt insulation labeled as R-15 or higher.
Installing InSoFast Insulation
Each InSoFast insulation panel is one piece of a full system of insulation. The panels are made of closed-cell, injection-molded continuous Expanded Polystyrene foam, and they fit together at notched edges for a tight fit.
Installing a system of InSoFast insulation hearkens back to fitting together a puzzle. The existing features of the wall should be your guide. The panels will follow a running band pattern but will need to be modified to bypass around windows, pipes, etc.
Before starting the process of applying InSoFast insulation panels, clean the wall surface. Not only will beginning with a clean surface prevent mold and mildew growth, but it will also promote the adhesion of the panels to the wall using high-quality construction adhesive.
All waterproofing measures should be taken before installing InSoFast insulation panels. While the panels do have channels for wicking moisture away from the wall, they do not create a waterproofing system. The concrete walls of a basement will require further protection if they’re prone to seepage.
The modifications that you’ll need to make for your installation can be done with a utility knife through the EPS foam and through the polypropylene studs with a saw of some sort.
The Loctite PL Premium 3X Stronger Construction Adhesive that we suggest using to apply the studs to the wall cures three times stronger than the average adhesive. Make sure to allow a minimum of 24-hours of drying time before adding your drywall.
