Insulated Wall Panels Exterior

Cost-effective, weather resistant, fast, and easy to install

Take the complexity out of exterior continuous insulation by choosing EPS foam insulated wall panels from InSoFast. The EXe panel involves a one-step installation process and drains better, dries better, performs better, and just plain works better than other options.

InSoFast is a style of engineered continuous insulation that comes in 24-inch x 48-inch interlocking panels of varying depths. The closed-cell, injection-molded panels can be universally applied to any interior or exterior wall assembly in both new and retrofit construction projects as well as to shipping container interiors.

Importance of Continuous Insulation

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standard 90.1 defines continuous insulation (CI) as insulation that is continuous across all structural members without thermal bridges other than fasteners and service openings. It is installed on the interior, exterior, or is integral to any opaque surface of the building envelope.

In cavity insulation systems, traditional stud framing can account for at least 25% of wall space. When the studs are uninsulated, there is enough thermal bridging to drop the R-Value from 19 to 12.5 – nearly a 35% loss – which can render any additional layers of insulation useless.

Building codes have higher requirements for cavity insulation to make up for the uninsulated studs or framing members. That is why basement wall code reads 10/13 in many climate zones. It can be R-10 continuous insulated sheathing on the interior or exterior of the home or R-13 cavity insulation along the interior of the basement wall.

InSoFast Insulated Panel Options

InSoFast panels feature integrated, non-conductive polypropylene studs that are encapsulated by the insulating material, eliminating the potential for thermal bridging to occur. The interlocking grooves create a tight seal at the intersection of each panel. The tongue-and-groove connections within InSoFast panels allow them to be installed with no gaps.

Interior: The InSoFast UX 2.0 panel is 2-inches thick with a flat surface that exposes the face of the embedded studs. The continuous R-value of 8.5 outperforms traditionally framed R-13 batt walls. The UX 2.0 panel is sufficient for most interior applications.

Exterior: The InSoFast EXi 2.5 panel (with electrical raceways) and the InSoFast EXe 2.5 panel (without electrical raceways) are 2 ½-inches thick and optimized for exterior usage. Both sides feature ORSC, Section R703.1.1-approved rain screen and drainage technology on both sides. Their continuous R-value of 10 outperforms traditionally framed R-15 batt walls.

EX panels serve as a secondary weather resistant barrier that is well-suited to absorptive claddings such as stucco or stone and provide a much-needed capillary break from wood framed walls and sheathing. They maximize energy efficiency and moisture management and can be installed over your existing weather resistant barrier or house wrap.
