Insulating Shipping Container Homes

InSoFast Shipping Container Insulation Options

Shipping containers were never designed to be inhabited by humans. Their steel construction makes them susceptible to condensation that can cause mold and corrosion and shorten the container’s usable life. The interiors of these metal boxes can also become too hot, too cold and too noisy.

Traditional insulation methods will lead to problems in a shipping container. Water vapor can travel through traditionally framed walls like water through a screen door in a submarine.

InSoFast is the easy way to turn cold, corrugated steel containers into cozy and safe homes, keeping them comfortable, dry, quiet, and in good condition.

Panels

InSoFast CX Container Panels are designed specifically for the side walls of shipping containers. They have a thin profile and take up only two inches of interior space, enabling you to minimize the thickness of your walls. The panels are set up for an 11-inch repeating pattern of the corrugation and the panel size is 44” x 24”.

These panels are installed horizontally with the studs running vertically to allow the studs to adhere to the interior-facing ribs of the container. CX Container Panels are affordable, lightweight, offer very high R-values, and can be affixed directly to the container sides with adhesive.

InSerts

To achieve maximum insulation and air-tightness, combine specifically shaped side wall, end wall and ceiling InSoFast InSerts with InSoFast UX 2.0 or InSoFast EXi 2.5 panels. This combination of InSoFast InSerts and InSoFast Panels provides a skin-tight framing and insulation to support your drywall finishes and fills up all of the hidden airspace behind the drywall with solid closed cell foam.

InSoFast has designed and engineered these InSerts to close up the container wall’s corrugation air gaps. Once glued in place, the surfaces will be flush and ready for coverage in full InSoFast panels, leaving a smooth surface for installing drywall and other wall finishes.

InSoFast kits are available for 20-foot and 40-foot containers with either standard 8-foot or high cube 9-foot ceilings, or call us to discuss custom configurations. And visit our website for a selection of videos and other resources about shipping container insulation.
