Interior Wall Insulation R Value

What does R-value mean and how important is it?

What is R value, and how does it impact the decisions you make when choosing interior continuous wall insulation for your next residential or large-scale commercial project?

InSoFast, LLC, established in 2006, manufactures closed-cell, injection-molded EPS foam insulation panels at facilities in Idaho, Massachusetts and Minnesota. Our panels have become the preferred DIY insulation method and can be shipped free of charge to project sites across the continental U.S.

Edward Scherrer, President of InSoFast, has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. He worked with continuous exterior sheet insulation and Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) before developing InSoFast continuous insulation panels to simplify on-site installation for contractors and homeowners.

Interior Wall Insulation R Value

What is R-Value?

If you are building a new home or planning to add more insulation to your current home, “R-Value” will eventually become part of the conversation. What does R-value mean and how important is it?

The purpose of insulation is to stop the flow of heat out of your home and keep it inside to warm the home in winter. R-value is the measurement of its ability to resist thermal (heat) transfer. The R-value depends on the type of insulation, its thickness, and its density.

The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power, which means warm air inside your home will take longer to bleed through walls or ceilings, helping to maintain a constant temperature. If you live in a cold climate, you will want insulation with a higher R-value.

High R-value alone, however, will not meet your needs if small gaps and fissures in your building materials allow heat to escape. It’s important to ensure that the space is fully filled with insulation in order for your home to be energy efficient during the winter months.

InSoFast Interior Insulation Panels

The InSoFast UX 2.0 Panel is R-8.5 closed-cell, injection-molded continuous EPS foam insulation that comes in 2-foot x 4-foot interlocking panels of varying depths. EPS is a non-toxic, inert insulation that maintains its R-value for the life of your building. The foam body is a fire-retardant material and serves as a Class III vapor barrier.

Each panel is 2-inches thick with a flat surface that exposes the face of the embedded studs. With rot-resistant framing, drainage channels, electrical raceways, and a simple, stackable interlocking design, the UX 2.0 panel is exceptionally cost-effective for base-level code requirements.

InSoFast insulation panels are manufactured without any ozone depleting CFCs or HCFCs that could affect the indoor air quality of your home. The closed cell foam is inert and experiences no physical or chemical breakdown over time.

For a higher R-value, the InSoFast EXi 2.5 Panel, at 2 ½-inches thick, is a great choice. This panel’s continuous R-value of 10 outperforms traditionally framed R-15 batt walls and provides 20% more insulation than our UX panels.
