Container Insulation Options

There are several types of insulation that can be used for shipping container homes. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and here are some factors to consider.

Fiberglass: This most common form of insulation is used mainly between studs, joists and beams of unfinished walls, floors and ceilings. Although popular, it works like a sponge and is a recipe for mold, rot and poor indoor air quality, problems that may ultimately damage a metal structure like a shipping container. Read more about the benefits of choosing InSoFast continuous insulation panels over fiberglass insulation.

Spray Foam: Spray foam insulation is very flexible and can be sprayed into gaps of any size. It offers a high R-value but is more expensive than other insulations, takes longer to install, requires framing, and is a messy affair.  It’s also made up of chemicals that, if inhaled, can cause respiratory problems. Spray foam requires the help of a pro and is not typically a DIY project.

EPS Foam Panels: EPS foam panel insulation from InSoFast is cost-effective, offers very high R-values, is lightweight, can be affixed directly to the container sides with adhesive, and keeps wall thickness to a minimum. Most installations can be completed by do-it-yourselfers with a utility knife, glue and a caulk gun.

Why Choose InSoFast?

InSoFast panels are the easy way to turn corrugated steel containers into cozy and safe dwellings or business establishments, keeping them comfortable, dry, quiet, and in good condition.

InSoFast CX Container Panels are designed for the side walls of most shipping containers and take the hassle out insulating and framing. Their thin profile takes up only 2-inches of interior space. They feature built-in framing and electrical raceways and provide R-11 insulation.

The 44” x 24” panels fit the width between the weld seams on the long side walls of the container and are set up for an 11-inch repeating pattern of corrugation. They are installed horizontally with the studs running vertically to allow the studs to adhere to the interior facing ribs of the container.

To achieve maximum insulation and air-tightness, combine our specifically shaped InSoFast Inserts for side walls, end walls and ceiling with InSoFast UX 2.0 or InSoFast EXi 2.5 panels. The combination fills all of the hidden airspace behind the drywall with solid closed cell foam and provides a smooth backing for drywall and other wall finishes.
