A shortage of affordable housing and a surge of interest in living sustainably in the San Francisco, CA, area has created quite a space for converting a shipping container into a habitation. We at InSoFast, LLC offer products just for such a project. Our Expanded Polystyrene foam insulation panels are do-it-yourself friendly and top-of-the line quality.
Rescuing a shipping container from the shipyard to use as a structure is a great way to cut down on the carbon footprint, save a bit of money, and creatively reinvent the structure. Shipping containers can even be combined to create two- and three- story homes. Beyond the typical tiny home, consider the following as just a few uses for your transformed structure: office space, classrooms, home gyms, restaurants, wood-working shops, open theaters, sewing or hobby rooms, vacation homes, disaster shelters, man-caves, she-sheds, and more.
Shipping containers are widely available, surprisingly affordable, and incredibly versatile. The uses and modifications possible for them to be reused are numerous, but each and every one will require insulation.
Shipping containers are made of metal, and without quality insulation coverage, the interior will be unbearably hot or cold. The metal exaggerates temperatures, creates condensation, and amplifies noise. Climate control efforts will be expensive and disappointing; the condensation will allow mold and mildew to grow, and the noise will be upsettingly loud. InSoFast insulation products can resolve each of these problems.
Our insulation products are high-performance, closed-cell, injection-molded EPS foam panel insulation, inserts, and studs that can effectively transform a metal structure into one that is comfortable, quiet, healthy, and lasting.
When you choose the InSoFast CX 44 Shipping Container panel product, you’ll enjoy the following versatile features:
- R-value = 11
- Built-in electrical raceways
- Built-in embedded studs and framing
- Easy to use
- Moisture control channels
- Continuous Insulation (CI)
- Especially created for shipping containers
Application of the CX shipping container panel should be horizontal in a running bond pattern so that the embedded studs line up vertically against the corrugated ridges.
Alternatively, you could use the InSoFast InSerts in combination with one of the two InSoFast interior panels. The InSerts fill the space created by the corrugation and leave a flat surface for you to then apply either UX 2.0 or EXi 2.5 insulation panels, depending on your climate and preference. This combination creates an airtight system of continuous insulation and can effectively insulate every surface within the shipping container.
The newest option we offer is the CX LowPro Stud. With this system, you apply the studs along the ridged corrugation, fill the spaces with InSerts, and then apply a layer of the rigid foam board of your choice. This option saves money on shipping but doesn’t include raceways for running services, so we advise that you stick with the CX panel if you plan to wire up the unit.
