InSoFast solid surface for drywall alternatives.
InSoFast patented and patent-pending EPS insulation panels are the best insulation for basement walls .
EPS foam provides the following benefits:
- non-porous, making it difficult for water vapor and air to pass through it
- stronger, denser, and can carry heavier loads than open-cell foam
- continuous R-value of 8.5 or 10.5
- tightly interlocking panels create a resilient seal that will not change shape, dry or crack over time
- solid surface supports drywall attachment and other finishes
- eliminates the potential for mistaken thermal leaks and prevents water from reaching the face
About InSoFast Continuous Insulation Panels
InSoFast EPS panels are the preferred DIY insulation method. They are very lightweight and can be easily cut and installed on the jobsite with a handsaw, handheld jigsaw or sabre saw, glue and a and a caulk gun.
The InSoFast UX 2.0 Panel is 2-inches thick with a flat surface that exposes the face of the embedded studs. The EPS body serves as a Class III vapor barrier. With R-8.5 continuous insulation, rot-resistant framing, drainage channels, electrical raceways, and a simple, stackable interlocking design, this panel a very cost-effective insulation solution for interior applications.
When you need a higher R-value, the EXi 2.5 Panel, at 2 ½-inches thick, has a continuous R-value of 10 and provides 20% more insulation than our UX panels. The injection-molded panels can be applied universally to any interior or exterior wall assembly.
InSoFast panels qualify as continuous insulation (CI) because the integrated, non-conductive polypropylene studs are encapsulated by the insulating material, eliminating the potential for thermal bridging to occur. The interlocking grooves also create a tight seal at the intersection of each panel.
Our panels are manufactured using a flame-retardant foam and are classified as rigid foam plastic insulation. They fall into the same class as pink, blue and yellow insulation boards and are required by code to be covered by ½” drywall or any other approved 15-minute thermal barrier (IBC 2603.4).
Drywall Alternatives
There are numerous drywall alternatives that can be applied in moist basement environments. The options include:
- Hardie Panels a fiber cement boards used as a mold-resistance tile backer in wet environments.
- Magnesium Oxide (MgO) Board is a technologically advanced board with several superior features including mold-resistance and waterproofing.
- DensArmor Fiberglass Panels is a high-performance gypsum panel wrapped in fiberglass that provides exceptional mold-resistance.
- Southern Wood Specialties offers kiln-dried rough cut yellow pine that is ideal for rustic great rooms, “man caves”, game rooms and cabins.
When choosing drywall alternatives, be sure to check with your building code official to make sure it meets your local requirements. Call InSoFast today at (888) 501-7899 or contact us online for more information about our EPS insulation panels.
