Learn how to insulate a shipping container home from the experts at InSoFast. Our EPS foam panel insulation is affordable, lightweight, offers very high R-values, can be affixed directly to the container walls, floor and ceiling with adhesive, and will enable you to save space.
Traditional insulation methods will lead to problems in a shipping container. Water vapor can travel through traditionally framed walls like water through a screen door in a submarine. InSoFast is not a framed wall system.
What is InSoFast?
InSoFast is a style of engineered continuous insulation that comes in interlocking panels and is thermally stable. The closed-cell, injection-molded EPS foam panels can be applied universally to any interior or exterior wall assembly in both new and retrofit construction projects and are the perfect do-it-yourself solution for shipping container interiors.
Unlike open-cell foam insulation, high-density closed-cell foam insulation is non-porous, making it difficult for water vapor and air to pass through it. It is stronger and denser and able to carry heavier loads than open-cell foam. It also provides almost twice the insulating R-value per inch. "R" means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power.
InSoFast CX Container Panels are explicitly designed for the side walls of most shipping containers and take the hassle out insulating and framing. Their thin profile takes up only two inches of interior space.
The 44” x 24” panels fit the width between the weld seams on the container’s long side walls and are set up for an 11-inch repeating pattern of corrugation. They are installed horizontally with the studs running vertically to allow the studs to adhere to the interior facing ribs of the container.

Our end wall and ceiling inserts are specifically shaped sleeves of EPS foam that are designed to close up the container’s corrugation air gaps. Once glued in place, the surfaces will be flush and ready for coverage in full InSoFast panels. Another solution is to utilize InSoFast Side Wall Inserts in conjunction with InSoFast UX 2.0 or InSoFast EX 2.5 panels to achieve maximum insulation and air-tightness.
Building codes require that all foam products in living areas be covered by a 15-minute thermal barrier, such as 1/2” drywall, and InSoFast panels provide solid backing for the drywall. Baseboard and trim can be fastened to the attachment studs using a finish nail gun, hand nails, or trim head screws.
Insulation kits are available for 20-foot and 40-foot containers with either standard 8-foot or high cube 9-foot ceilings, or call us for custom configurations.
