What Insulation is Used for Exterior Walls

A home’s insulation system is integral to its comfort, durability, and maintenance. Unfortunately, many older homes have less than stellar insulation that degrades and loses functionality over time, and they will require updates to the insulation. If adding this insulation to the interior proves to be difficult, consider the InSoFast insulation panel that is used for outdoor applications and will resolve what problems occur with other commonly chosen exterior walls.

What Insulation is Used for Exterior Walls

InSoFast insulation panels consist of closed-cell EPS foam that’s been injection-molded into precisely engineered, patented and patent-pending panel designs. Made for professional use but well-suited to the DIY market, our panels provide continuous insulation to any flat surface. We offer product lines for interior and exterior applications and shipping container transformations.

Discover InSoFast Insulation Panels

Welcome to a revolutionary innovation in insulation. InSoFast insulation panels come in 2’x4’ panels of different thicknesses with a lightweight, stackable design for easy transport and installation with a small or even single-member crew. You won’t even require special skills or tools to get the job done.

Our panels are made of closed-cell EPS foam, highly dense insulation that is non-porous and physically and chemically stable. The closed-cell foam delivers twice the R-value as open-cell foam.

The R-value when discussing insulation indicates the resistance to thermal energy loss and is directly proportional to strength. High R-values mean strong insulation.

Insulation for Exterior Walls

The insulation you include on exterior walls will substantially impact your home’s comfort and longevity. InSoFast insulation panels outperform typical fiberglass insulation with higher R-values on the label, and they’re not vulnerable to damage, as is fiberglass insulation.

The features of the panels introduce unexpected and remarkable benefits. Each panel contains polypropylene studs every 16” on center; they’re non-conductive and fully enmeshed within the insulation. This built-in framing feature eliminates thermal bridges of wooden frame-dependent insulation systems. The tongue-and-groove alignment edges also facilitate continuous insulation with a foolproof, tight seal where panels connect.

Exterior application InSoFast insulation panels, the FP-2.5NRW (EXe 2.5) panels operate as a secondary weather-resistant barrier requiring less demo, paint abatement, or trim removal. These panels are maximized for exterior use with dual drainage channels and non-porous composition. You’ll also be able to use basically any claddings that you like even if you’d prefer to mix finishing materials. Stucco, stone, vinyl, and other 2” finishing materials will attach to the same built-in framing system created by the InSoFast insulation panels.

If you choose to approach insulating the exterior walls from the interior, choose between the Flat Panel 2.0 or 2.5. The FP 2.0 has a 2” depth and an R-8.5 energy efficiency that outperforms fiberglass labeled as R-13. The FP 2.5 panel has a 2 ½” depth and an R-10.5 level of energy efficiency outperforms R-15 fiberglass insulation.
